Grant Bates on his journey of success and mental health advocacy

Starting his career in a local agency and joining Hamptons in 2012, Grant has evolved from a Senior Negotiator to Director at the Islington office, to his current role as Head of Hamptons Private Office in 2023, where he sources exceptional property opportunities for our HNW clients.

Grant is also known for his social media presence, specifically his Instagram profile, where his charisma shines through and he boasts a following of 222,000 and counting. His addictive property tour videos offer an immersive journey through exquisite London homes.

Yet, it's not just property tours that keep his followers engaged. Grant has also garnered a loyal following for his candid discussions around mental health and the power of maintaining a positive mind-set.

Grant was diagnosed with severe ADHD as a child, facing expulsion from several schools. Through his mid-twenties, he experienced severe anxiety, suffering panic attacks.

From early morning routines and regular gym sessions to saunas and journaling, Grant has adopted a multitude of health habits to keep his anxiety at bay. His greatest revelation, however, was discovering the power of regular exercise in managing his mental health over the long-term.

Five years ago, Grant made the decision to become sober. Living with anxiety and ADHD, he recognised that substance abuse was not the answer. Acceptance of his unique brain makeup became a crucial step in his journey towards mental health and wellbeing.

Of course, Grant admits he faces waves of anxiety from time to time. But he’s developed a toolkit of coping mechanisms to help himself through these temporary setbacks.

Along with many men, Grant has faced stigma to keep his mental health to himself, leaving little room for vulnerability. But Grant is helping to redefine what it means to be strong. Vulnerability, he argues, is not a sign of weakness but a testament to courage and confidence.

By sharing his experiences and struggles, Grant has become an inspiration for others facing similar battles. His candid discussions about mental health resonate with many. His courage and honesty in sharing his vulnerabilities have made him a true role model for other men.
