Ways to make your rental garden bloom

If you’re lucky enough to have some outdoor space at home, then why not give it a new lease of life! Since the pandemic, over 3 million more people in the UK started enjoying some light gardening. Interestingly, almost 50% of them are under 45, meaning that many are now gardeners within rented spaces.

However fear not when it comes to thinking gardening comes at an expense or is time-consuming, as it may not take too much work to prepare your garden for an Easter egg hunt, a lazy Sunday afternoon or a summer barbeque. Better still, there are many solutions that can move home with you should you need to.

The most efficient way to add plants into rented gardens are plant pots. These are versatile so can be added to paving, gravel surfaces, treated as hanging baskets or even sunken into flower beds. The pots themselves can be purchased in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, colours and styles. For creating more impact, the bigger the plant pot the better – this way in the hot summer months it will also make your water usage more efficient. Many plant varieties are happy in pots and select plants can provide year-round changes. The best thing about having plant pots are that they can easily move home with you.

Bulbs are another type of plant that are perfect for pots and rental gardens. They can add a pop of colour to your garden from as early as February and can last to May, when summer plants can then provide colour to your outside space until October. The perfect thing about bulbs are that they will re-bloom every Spring, and some even multiply so each year you’ll be getting more flowers than the year before!

Annuals from seed are another perfect opportunity to add some life to your garden at a low cost. There are many easy to grow varieties, and usually start to flourish from May through to October They allow your garden to be unique, and can also provide food for your kitchen table if you fancy growing some fruit or vegetables!

As well as plants, furnishings can change an outdoor space. You can transform the space by investing in garden furniture such as a garden sofa or dining table and chairs alongside an umbrella. Another increasingly popular garden item is a fire pit, as it’s a great way to keep you warm on cooler evenings, or create an atmosphere on those long summer nights. If you’re wanting to attract wildlife and add something unique, water bowls will tempt birds in for a drink or a bathe. The great thing about having furnishings in your garden is that they can be taken with you to a new garden if you move home, and can be placed in shadier areas, making these perfect spots for relaxing and entertaining.

Accessories such as solar lights should also be considered in gardens as they can instantly brighten up your outdoor space at night, making it great for having friends round on a summer’s evening, and instantly adds atmosphere, for no cost at all. Mirrors can also cover up unsightly fences and make spaces feel bigger, and wooden step ladders are a trending way to add more potted plants to your garden as it both saves space and adds an element of height. If you’re not a fan of the paving, an outdoor rug can go perfectly with your outdoor furniture, which is an easy way to add some colour and comfort to your alfresco dining experience.
