Chelsea flower show 2026

The Transient Garden demonstrates practical and achievable ideas for creating a relaxing balcony garden within a compact space.

It showcases realistic methods of space saving that maximise both comfort and greenery. The theme centres on flexibility and adaptability, reflecting the increasingly temporary and mobile nature of modern living. All elements are modular, lightweight and designed to be moved by two people, allowing the layout to be easily reconfigured.

Visitors can expect to see container planting, folding furniture and vertical structures that add height and interest without overwhelming the space.

Inspiration is drawn from the ephemeral qualities of nature’s shifting light, changing seasons and the way nature continually evolves and renews itself. The Transient Garden offers a calm and functional retreat, demonstrating how small, impermanent spaces can provide lasting wellbeing and a sense of connection to the natural world.

Rebecca Lloyd Jones, Garden Designer

Rebecca is a garden designer with a strong commitment to creating sustainable, biodiverse landscapes. She has a background in horticulture and holds an RHS Level 2 qualification. In 2023, she graduated with distinction from the Garden Design Diploma at KLC School of Design and now works with Garden Club London, designing imaginative urban gardens that balance aesthetic quality with ecological value.

In 2024, her garden Chalk on the Wild Side received a Special Commendation at the Society of Garden Designers Awards, recognising her considered approach to native planting and wildlife‑friendly design. Her work is characterised by a dedication to sustainability and thoughtful, sensitive design, with the aim of creating gardens that benefit the environment while enriching the experience of those who use them.

Rebecca’s journey into landscape design began in city community gardens, where she worked with individuals who had limited access to green space. These early experiences shaped her belief that the true value of a garden lies not only in its design, but also in the act of engaging with the soil and nurturing living systems. They also reinforced her commitment to biodiversity and sustainable practice.

She has since volunteered and worked on several Chelsea Flower Show projects. Designing a show garden of her own has long been an ambition, particularly one that reflects her values and highlights the importance of engaging with green space, regardless of scale or setting.

The Transient Garden represents Rebecca’s response to this ambition—an approach to gardening that embraces flexibility, celebrates the process of growing, and offers a practical and inspiring model for gardening in smaller spaces.

The planting has been selected to suit flexible urban living, with species chosen for their ability to thrive in containers on a city balcony. Responding to shifting light, shelter and seasonal change, the palette combines resilient structure with self‑seeding plants that evolve over time. Together, the planting demonstrates how even temporary outdoor spaces can be transformed into dynamic, low‑maintenance gardens that bring beauty, productivity and a sense of continuity to city life.
