6 Bedroom Detached House, School Hill, Alderbury, Salisbury, Wiltshire, SP5 3DR

Tenure Type: Freehold

Property Description

The Old School House was a functional village school from the mid nineteenth century until the early 1990s when it was lovingly converted by the current owners. The former school buildings adjoin the original hall house believed to be some 500 years old.

The lateral accommodation is flexible in use with three sizeable reception rooms as well as the current kitchen/breakfast room and family sitting room. The house oozes character with high ceilings, impressive windows, fireplaces and a stunning main staircase leading from the central hall. The first floor is accessed by both the main staircase and a secondary staircase on the other side of the building, again making it flexible for both day-to-day family living and for entertaining and guests visiting. The galleried landing from the main staircase is quite special and leads directly to the master-suite and in turn to the rest of the first floor. The bedroom to the centre of the house (as seen on the floorplan) can be walked through to reach the rest of the bedrooms or locked internally with the three further bedrooms then accessed from the second staircase.

Situation
Alderbury is a popular and thriving village situated approximately three miles south east of the Cathedral city of Salisbury. Local village facilities include a village hall, a primary school, convenience store, post office, two public houses and tennis and football clubs. Alderbury is within easy access of Salisbury’s excellent shopping, leisure, cultural and educational facilities.

The mainline station has direct trains to London’s Waterloo (journey time approximately 86 minutes). Good schools are numerous and include Salisbury Cathedral School, Chafyn Grove, The Godolphin School as well as the hugely in-demand Bishops Wordsworth and South Wilts Grammar Schools.

There is racing at Salisbury and Wincanton, golf at Highpost, South Wilts and Rushmore and fishing on the River Avon and other nearby chalk streams. The countryside surrounding Salisbury offers large unspoiled areas, most notably the renowned New Forest National Park ideal for walking and riding.

The nearby A36 links into the M27 and the M3 and provides easy access out to the ports, Southampton Airport and London.

Outside
The house sits towards the front corner of its plot, whilst the driveway entrance is accessed from the unmade road to the front. The driveway curves up and round to the rear of the house providing ample parking for a number of cars, and making the rear of the property the most accessible for day-to-day living. The gardens have been beautifully tended over the years with wonderfully mature planting. The pretty front garden provides a wonderful approach to the house and the gardens to the rear are sectioned and offer variety in the form of a mature vegetable garden, a wild-flower meadow and the original playground remains to the far rear corner making it a super, level space for children’s game or for conversion to something like a tennis court if required.
