It is believed that a manor house has stood on this site since the 13th century, passing through many ownerships over the years, including the Crown in the 15th century. The property was partly demolished in 1846, not long after the surrounding moat had been filled in. More recently, Lynden Manor was owned by Lady Nadejda, Marchioness of Milford Haven and her husband Captain George Mountbatten, uncle of Prince Philip and brother of Lord Mountbatten of Burma.
