According to the owners the name ‘ Deormeds’ dates far back in history. The land on Barnards Lane was gifted by King Alfred the Great to his most loyal servant, Deormed.

Over the years, as parcels of the land were sold off and the new properties were bestowed with names chosen by the owners, the last connection to King Alfred’s Deormed was lost when ‘Deormed’s Croft’ was shortened to simply ‘The Croft’.
