Lotmore is a traditional Wiltshire cottage set in the heart of one of the area’s prettiest and most popular villages, renowned for its supportive and friendly community. Originally two cottages, combined in 1919, it now forms a superb family home that is deceptively spacious and set in gardens of just under a third of an acre. With cob, and stone, brick and flint elevations under a thatched roof, the cottage is extremely photogenic. Believed to have mid 16th century origins, the cottage is full of character, retaining many of its original features. The house has well proportioned rooms, with unusually good ceiling heights, and the double aspect ground floor rooms provide an abundance of light and airy space.
From the solid oak front door the hall opens to full height with the staircase rising to a galleried landing. The entrance hall leads to both the sitting room and the kitchen/dining room and has a window overlooking the rear garden. The sitting room is a lovely reception space with an impressive Inglenook fireplace with dual aspects and door leading out into the garden and terrace. Of good size, this room has a relaxed, country elegance with fitted bookshelves and cupboards making room for a small study area. The family kitchen/dining room is undoubtedly the heart of the home with double doors opening to the rear gardens and windows with deep sills to the front. Fitted with bespoke, hand painted, comprehensive range of cupboards under solid wood and tile work surfaces and including a larder unit, a large electric range cooker with LPG hob, whilst a separate utility room provides further appliance space and houses an oil fired boiler. A ground floor extension off the kitchen, added in 1995, has created a beautifully light fourth bedroom with wide corner windows overlooking the garden and with the benefit of an ensuite shower room, with its own separate access via utility to the back door. On the first floor the landing has good built in cupboards as does the master bedroom. The second bedroom has a cupboard with fitted vanity unit and bedroom three has fitted cupboards and shelving. There is also a family bathroom on this floor.
Great Wishford is one of the village gems of the Wylye valley with its range of period and character cottages, its church, and primary school (one of the oldest in Wiltshire). There is a thriving village pub, The Royal Oak, and walks aplenty be them along the river or into Grovely Woods. The village has easy access to the A303 with its links to the West and M3. Wilton is three miles to the South, and Salisbury with its regional mix of lifestyle, entertainment, commercial and retail facilities, as well as a mainline railway station to London Waterloo approximately 85 minutes lies just 3 miles further South. Good local schools are numerous and include Salisbury Cathedral School, Chafyn Grove, Godolphin School, as well as Bishop Wordsworth and South Wilts Grammar Schools. There is racing at Salisbury and Wincanton, golf at Highpost, South Wilts and Rushmore.
To the front of the cottage there is a pretty, quintessentially English cottage garden, filled with various roses, clematis and summer flowering hollyhocks. A five bar gate opens onto the paved drive at the side, with private parking for multiple vehicles and leads into an open car port. Beyond is a separate timber studio building with tiled roof, power and cold water, providing an excellent hobbies space/home office. Attached is a garden workshop. The established rear gardens are absolutely delightful. A paved terrace with original well and hand pump, now a charming pond, and a grapevine and rose clad pergola create a wonderful place to entertain and dine al fresco. Rustic trellis and archways, clad with roses and flowering plants cover brick edged pathways leading through lawns to the extensive garden. There are raised beds for vegetable growing and there is a greenhouse and further garden shed, whilst many fruit trees including quince, pear and apples ensure that the garden is as productive as it is beautiful.
