This period house is situated in the Grade II listed George Inn development in the high street. The George Inn, dating back to the late 15th century and 16th century, is a former pilgrims' hostel for the pilgrims on their way to and from the rich and well-endowed Hailes Abbey, approx 2 miles away and is one of only 3 galleried courtyards remaining in the country. To the rear is a squared and coursed limestone wall with the dates 1581 and 1706 engraved.
The accommodation comprises a living room with fireplace and a door to the pretty communal gardens to the rear with lovely views over to wooded hills with sheep filled meadows; cloakroom; kitchen/diner with a large window, electric oven, electric hob, space for washing machine, space for fridge/freezer, fireplace and exposed brick to one wall. On the first floor are three bedrooms, some with exposed timbers and stone and a bathroom with a wall-mounted boiler.
Outside, there are charming communal gardens providing a lovely place to sit and admire the views of the rolling Cotswold countryside and 2 allocated parking spaces for Mercia House as well as visitor parking, accessed from Silk Mill Lane.
Mercia House is situated in the heart of this historic town which was a royal town in Saxon times and an important centre on the pilgrim route to nearby Hailes Abbey. The town has a wide range of shops, excellent restaurants, including one with a Michelin star, and several pubs. There are local schools and amenities and an important church, St. Peters, built mainly in the 1460's and being a fine example of the Perpendicular style of architecture and renowned for its interesting gargoyles. Sudeley Castle is situated on the south-east side of town making it popular with walkers and tourists alike with a circular walk along the River Isbourne, believed to be one of only two rivers in the world to flow north along its entire length, as well as plenty of Cotswold hill walks. Cheltenham is approx 8 miles away with its wider range of shops, schools and leisure amenities.
Please note there is an Estate Management charge which we believe to be £160 paid twice yearly (not verified).
