This unusual and charming toll house at Mythe Bridge is thought to have been built for the Tewkesbury Turnpike Trust in 1826 in the form of a lodge cottage now listed Grade II due to its connections with Thomas Telford who designed the Grade II listed Mythe Bridge with its 17 foot arch in 1826-30. Constructed in coursed lias with limestone dressing under a slate roof, the main entrance is not the one on the bridge but is from the rear elevation facing the turnpike shelter on the opposite side of the road. Telford wrote 'I reckon this the most handsomest bridge which has been built under my direction.'
Accessed from the rear, the accommodation comprises a dual aspect living/dining room with patio doors to garden and fireplace with logburner; kitchen with gas hob, double electric oven, breakfast bar, space for dishwasher and fridge/freezer; utility room/shower room with shower, w.c., sink, wardrobes and space for washing machine; bedroom 3 used as a snug/office with built-in wardrobes; study area under stairs to first floor; integral workshop with space for tumble dryer and second freezer; door into integral garage with electronic up and over door, power and light.
On the first floor is a landing with external door to bridge elevation; triple aspect double bedroom and the principal bedroom with wardrobes and a door to a balcony with lovely views over the river; bathroom.
Outside, there is a seating terrace with barbecue and greenhouse and screened bin area. The rear garden is laid to lawn with jetty and mooring at the end, roses and shrubs, bridge arches believed to be owned half way - one used as a log store and one as a garden store.
In the grounds is a little detached red brick cottage, The Old Alum House with a double bedroom on the ground floor with an en-suite shower room; a spiral staircase up to a sitting room with electric fire and kitchenette off.
Please note that a footpath runs along the bottom of the garden and that The Old Alum House cannot be sold separately.
