Alton is an historic market town in East Hampshire - it also happens to be the highest town in the county. Located at the source of the River Wey it lies just over 50 miles south of London. There are strong transport links via road and rail with regular services from Alton Station to London Waterloo (one hour 10 minutes).
Alton's close proximity to London makes it a desirable location for city commuters and it's also within easy reach of the south coast and the popular seaside spots such as Brighton and The Witterings.
Local amenities include a lively high street with an array of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. From national chains to independent traders, there's something for everyone on Alton's high street. There's also The Palace Cinema - perfect for taking in the latest film releases - and the Alton Sports Centre with swimming pool, gym and various racket courts.
Attractions in and around the Alton area include the Jane Austen Museum in the nearby village of Chawton, set in Jane Austen's 17th Century red brick house. The Allen Gallery, a quaint art museum, and Alton Station, where Thomas the Tank Engine himself has been known to make an appearance.
Properties in Alton ooze character and history and the convenient location of this beautiful market town is just another feather in its well-decorated cap.
