Returning to London

Now that England’s plan B Covid restrictions requiring people to work from home has come to an end, employees are boarding trains and commuting into the capital once again. Recovering from the huge declines throughout the pandemic, office workers, students and international residents are all starting to return to the city. This means that the people who chose to leave London during the pandemic and start a new life in the country are now having second thoughts. As London is starting to have life again and the offices are opening up, many have come to the realisation that the idea of a long commute is not ideal and some are considering reversing the move back to London.

These people have recently often been referred to as the ‘reverse movers’ – they are bucking the trend and selling their home in the country to buy once again in the capital post lockdown. For many this move is less dramatic, as they have chosen to live in areas in Greater London as a compromise which allows them to still have access to green space and be separated from the hustle and bustle of the city whilst still having easy access to Central London right on their doorstep.

However for some, their new life in the sticks is everything they’ve dreamed of and they are not ready to give that up just yet. Therefore, some have chosen to rent a property in the capital as an alternative solution as for now many workers are still only required in the office a maximum of three days a week. This allows for a good balance of city living and work life, whilst still being able to enjoy a quieter country lifestyle some of the days in the week too.

For many the move back into London is permanent and for others it may be a choice to rent and live part time in the city, but either way, Central London and the surrounding areas have a lot to offer. Take a look at our London properties that are currently available to buy or rent through Hamptons.
