How and why we should focus on more sustainable homes

Climate change is a hot topic and cuts in global greenhouse gas emissions are still far from where they need to be to preserve a liveable climate. This was highlighted during COP26 (the UN Climate Change Conference).

Boris Johnson was keen to stress the UK’s sustainability credentials with Building more sustainable homes being one of his biggest battles. 14% of the country’s carbon emissions coming from heating our homes alone. This stresses the need to modernise our ageing housing stock and insulating our homes in renewable ways in order to reach net zero.

By doing this we will need to embrace sustainability and also generate a large proportion of energy ourselves using solar power to heat hot water systems. However, the most sustainable homes will be powered by heat pumps, smart devices will be used to measure how much water we use, smart plugs will record how much energy we use, and motion sensors will automatically switch our energy-efficient LED lighting on and off, this will help people, to save as much energy as possible.

Below are some examples of properties that Hamptons currently sell which are at the forefront of sustainability.

The Oaks, Beaconsfield

We would also like to highlight that we recognise here at Hamptons that we too need to help and are committed to making a positive impact on the communities we serve, and beyond. We make sure we support the environment in small gestures from sustainable property boards to beach clean up’s and planting 150 trees to commemorate our 150 years.

We are also partnered with Just Move In, a certified B Corporation. Together, we are helping people switch to 100% renewable energy plans, planting a carbon-absorbing mangrove tree for every new customer.

So far through our partnership with Just Move in we:
