Aynho is situated south east of Banbury on the B4100 in the South Northamptonshire countryside. Aynho is celebrated for its beauty. Set on high ground and once surrounded by a protective wall early in its history, it was a typical fortified hill village and a number of its ancient stone cottages, some with outside stairs, survive. The walls of many of them are covered with apricots, for the cottagers used to have to pay the lord of the manor a toll in this fruit. The village is made up predominantly of period stone properties together with a limited number of more recent homes.
