Leading residential agency, Hamptons International has raised over £3,300 for Cancer Research UK following the Prudential RideLondon - Surrey 100 which saw a Hamptons International team of cyclists from the Sevenoaks, Knightsbridge, Kingston, Godalming and Farnham branches participate in the biggest closed-road bike ride in the UK.
The team, made up of five individuals from across the business, joined over 24,000 other cyclists as they took to the roads of London and Surrey. The race, which took place on Sunday 10 August 2014, saw the team take on a challenging route from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, out to the Surrey Hills and finally finishing on The Mall.
The Hamptons International team battled torrential rain, wind, thunder and lightning as they caught the tail end of Hurricane Bertha. Weather forecasts meant that the route was shortened from 100 miles to 86, cutting the section of the route that included the infamous and treacherous climbs of Leith Hill and Box Hill. The team was cheered on by supporters along each stage of the route, from outside The Tower of London and leafy Surrey villages to the Houses of Parliament and onto the euphoric roars of the crowd applauding along The Mall.
Simon Jordan, Associate Director at Hamptons International’s Southern Regions says: “We’re thrilled to have raised such an impressive amount as part of our ongoing support for Cancer Research. Despite the biblical weather that we encountered, we rode on throughout all 86 miles and crossed the line together feeling exhilarated at our gruelling physical accomplishment. We had huge support from all of the branches and we were delighted to see so many friends, family, colleagues and members of the community cheering us on. On behalf of myself and the rest of the team; Carl Davenport, Michael Walker, Geoff Trimm and Peter Knowles, I would like to extend our thanks to all those who donated so generously and help us raise money for this incredibly worthy cause.”
