Acton House was formerly known as Tewkesbury Lodge being one of a pair of identical lodges which were re-errected by Hugh Andrews in c1905 after his previous purchase of Toddington Manor in 1900. The lodges were linked by an attractive archway and formed the principal entrance to the Manor. However the arch was removed during the second world war when the Manor housed US Army troops and access for tanks onto the estate was required. Acton House is built of dressed Cotswold stone beneath a part Cotswold stone slate roof and incorporates a variety of architectural features to include mullioned windows, leaded lights with drip moulds, stone tabling to the roof and stone carved columns forming part of the loggia. The property was sympathetically extended in the mid-1990s and offers well-proportioned accommodation exceeding 2000 sq ft over two floors. The property would benefit from some modernisation and has the potential to be a lovely family home.
Toddington is a small village approximately 4 miles south of Broadway, well placed for Cheltenham and junction 9 of the M5 motorway at Tewkesbury, approximately 10 miles distant. The village is well known for the GWR steam railway and local amenities include a church, general stores, garden centre and a public house. Winchcombe, approximately 3 miles distant, provides a wider range of facilities including a secondary school.
Attractive gardens surround the property on three sides and comprise areas of lawn, stone paved pathways and terraces bordered by mature trees and shrubs. Beyond the gardens is an extensive gravelled parking area with an adjoining Single Garage with attached Workshop. There are two small enclosed paddocks containing mature specimen trees. The sale of the property includes the ownership of the drive over which the neighbouring lodge has vehicular and pedestrian rights of way. The lodge itself, including the gardens and two paddocks, sits in excess of 1.5 acres.
