The History of Hamptons

 1869

Hamptons was established on Pall Mall East, in premises it shared with the National Gallery. Its estate agency arm was launched under the direction of George and W Powell Hampton. In 1900, it became a limited company, with George Hampton as Chairman and Managing Director.



 1991

1991 saw the acquisition of Hamptons by Bristol & West Building Society, who were expanding their property services business.


 1996

In 1996 Cluttons London Residential Agency added Hamptons to their successful UK and Hong Kong based operations.


 2005

Hamptons was bought by Wheelock Properties (Singapore) Ltd. in 2005.


 2006

In 2006, Emaar Properties, the largest real estate development company in the Middle East, acquired Hamptons to further develop their global expansion plans.


 2010

Hamptons was acquired by Countrywide in June 2010. Countrywide is one of the largest and most successful estate agency and property service groups in the UK.


 2015

Hamptons won Best Large Agency at The Estate Agency of the Year Awards, in association with The Times and The Sunday Times, for the fourth year in a row.


 2019

Hamptons celebrates 150 years.


 2020

Hamptons brand refresh. Name changes from Hamptons International to Hamptons.


 2021

In 2021 Hamptons was acquired by Connells, leading estate agency and property services group in the UK.
